Hackers disabled PlayStation Network

Sony Computer Entertainment recently warned that it would shut down the PlayStation Network due to technical work. However, the network service went down a day earlier, presumably due to a DDoS attack. Hacker group Lizard Squad claimed responsibility.

PSN users from different countries write on the NeoGAF forum that the service does not work. Perhaps players will be reassured that Lizard Squad was concerned about their welfare: the hackers decided to teach Sony a lesson because the company is stingy about spending profits on the development of PSN.

Shack News reports that Battle fruity-vegas-casino.co.uk servers have been affected by Lizard Squad attacks.net, League of Legend and Path of Exile.

Websites and services of gaming companies have been hacked repeatedly. In April 2011, attackers hacked the PlayStation Network and obtained the names, addresses and, presumably, credit card information of 77 million users. Sony’s network was down for several weeks. In May, Sony apologized and offered free games to the victims, but this did not suit everyone. At the same time, hackers reached the servers of Sony Online Entertainment and obtained information about 24.7 million accounts. In January 2013, the British Information Office (ICO), which was convinced that the hack could have been avoided, fined Sony 250 thousand. In July 2014, Sony agreed to settle a class action lawsuit before trial and give $15 million in rewards to those affected by the hack.

In August 2012, Blizzard Entertainment stated that someone had "illegally accessed" Battle.net and found out the email addresses and verification questions of users. In December 2013, the hacker group DERP attacked the servers of League of Legends, Dota 2, Blizzard and EA.com. At the same time, Sony warned some PSN users that they needed to change their account password. The company explained the reboot as “suspicious activity” within the network. The company used the same wording when it asked to change the passwords of some users in November 2013.

PlayStation Network is an online service for owners of PlayStation consoles, which was launched on November 11, 2006. PSN allows you to play online, chat with friends and download games. There is a paid subscription to the PS Plus service, which opens up additional benefits for players, such as free games every month and discounts in the PlayStation Store. On PS4, a PS Plus subscription is required for some online features. In July 2013, the number of accounts on PSN exceeded 110 million.
